AYAMA offers private and small group yoga classes which are tailored to suit your individual needs. Anna teaches an integration of the Hatha Vinyasa and Calligrapy Yoga styles in combination with other mindful movement practices inspired by modern biomechanical science.
Hatha Vinyasa Yoga
This style draws on traditional yoga postures with particular influence from the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga tradition. Postures are linked together in flowing sequences with each physical movement guided by your breath. There is not a set sequence of postures so expect something a little different each time! Postures will be adapted to suit the energy and experience of the students in each particular session.
Hatha Vinyasa Yoga is designed to increase strength and flexibility, reduce stress, and improve overall physical and mental health. Careful attention is given to alignment and safe movement patterns while the ultimate aim is to create an environment where even the most dynamic and challenging physical practice is experienced as a moving meditation. Calligraphy Yoga
A powerful yet meditative yoga practice which is comprised of a series of continuously flowing 3 dimensional movements inspired by the art of Chinese calligraphy writing. Calligraphy Yoga was developed by Master Zhen Hua Yang, an Australian resident since 1992, and is a fusion of his 40 year experience in martial arts, internal energy production and yogic postures. It is a truly innovative and unique yoga style which combines the effortless movements of Tai Chi with the internal energy awareness of Chi Gong and the physical shapes of Hatha Yoga.
Calligraphy Yoga sequences incorporate natural, free flowing, intuitive movements that are designed to open the spine, joints, meridian lines and energy centres throughout the body. All Calligraphy Yoga movements are synchronised with diaphragmatic breathing and are initiated from a point in the lower abdomen known as the lower Dan Tian. The Dan Tian or ‘energy centre’ is like a cup that stores the energy we receive from food, drink and the air we breathe. Focusing on this area during practice serves on an energetic level to refill and disperse the body’s internal energy stores and on a physical level ensures active movements throughout the spine that are safe and free of tension or strain. Calligraphy Yoga is designed to stimulate blood circulation, mental/nervous system circulation and digestive circulation all of which are fundamental to longevity and good health. Improving these circulations allows oxygen to nourish every cell, enhances organ function and encourages a state of internal happiness independent of external conditions. Master Yang describes this as when the “cells smile”. The fundamental purpose of Calligraphy Yoga is to prolong health throughout your life by learning to cultivate and control your internal energy rather than by extreme stretching or physical exertion. In this way it is a practice which is suitable for every generation and fitness level, students, busy professionals, beginner /experienced yoga practitioners and pre/post natal women. The space that she creates is conducive to 'letting go'... and she is able to maintain a meditative flow , whilst keeping a close eye on the class to ensure that we are all holding the postures well.
